Dear all,

For organizational reasons, we had to modify the dates of the SIB /
Staromics course entitled:

*"Using the semantic web for faster (Bio-)research"*

This course, held in Geneva from *30 November to 3 December 2015*, is
aimed at teaching participants on how to use semantic web technologies
for their own research. It includes an in-depth exploration of Semantic
Web concepts such as RDF (data modelling), SPARQL (asking questions on
your data), OWL (reasoning for deducing new facts about your data).
The fourth day will be dedicated to a *hackathon* session. Here you and
others have time to put into practice the theory of this course.
Together with the tutors we will transform the data you use in your PhD
into prototypical RDF for further development on your own.
The hackathon is *free* and *open* to people who would like to have an
RDF representation of their data. People wanting to join ONLY to the
hackathon do not need to register online, but please *send an email* to
training at isb-sib.ch so that we know the approximate number of participants.

At the end of the you should be able to:

  * Work effectively with your own and other groups data using
    standardized technologies
  * Understand when SPARQL and RDF are useful tools for your work
  * Use the UniProt, neXtProt and among others the EBI RDF platform
