Dear all,

We are pleased to announce the following course and mini-symposium from
the CUSO Doctoral Program StarOmics and organized by the SIB Swiss
Institute of Bioinformatics*

*"**Next Generation Sequencing genome & transcriptome assembly and
analysis"* - **Fribourg, 16-18 June 2014
"***Mini-symposium BEFRI Genomics Day" - *******Fribourg, 20 June 2014 ***

Genome and transcriptome assembly and analysis are critical steps in
many biological projects. The Next Generation Sequencing (NGS) methods
and the software to analyse their output data evolve at a fast rate. We
therefore propose to review advances in the current sequencing methods
and software needed for genome and transcriptome analysis.
During this three-day course, participants will learn all aspects from
quality control and cleaning the data, to de novo genome and
transcriptome assembly, to reads remapping for SNP calling, to
transcript counting and isoforms identification. An extra day (20 June)
will be dedicated to the BEFRI Genomics Day jointly organized by the
Universities of Bern and Fribourg, where real life examples using NGS
data will be presented.
The course will offer hands-on sessions, the participants are required
to bring their own laptop with min 4Gb RAM and wifi.

Further information and application form for both the course and the
mini-symposium are available from here
