Short summary: following the success of the classes which took place in
2010, the SIB is organising again a series of courses by
Damian Conway on Perl (three days, on topics chosen so that they will
likely have a direct effect on your day-to-do programming), and a
one-day course on "Presentation techniques". This event will take place
in Lausanne on 25-28 September 2012. Read on if you are interested, and
forward this message to anyone who could also be interested.
As many of you know, the one-day course on "Presentation techniques"
(Friday 28 September) is a must for any scientist who has to present in
front of an audience; see http://edu.isb-sib.ch/course/view.php?id=123
for more detail. This course received the best feedback over all courses
ever organized at SIB, and some people have planned to follow it a
second time this year -- probably the best endorsement we could get. The
number of seats left is limited, so please register early if you are
interested. Only academic participants may register and the cost is 200
CHF for the day.
The Perl courses are:
* Tue 25 September: Advanced Perl Programming Techniques
http://damian.conway.org/Courses/AdvProgPerl.html
A course for advanced Perl programmers who want to know more
powerful, more efficient, and more maintainable implementation
techniques.
* Wed 26 September: New features of the Modern Perls (5.10 to 5.16)
http://damian.conway.org/Courses/NewPerl.html
A must for all Perl programmers: don't wait for Perl6, but learn
about all the new features available in recent Perl versions and
ignored by most Perl programmers, and see with practical examples
how they can improve the performance, robustness, and
maintainability of your code.
* Thu 27 September: Test-driven development in Perl
http://damian.conway.org/Courses/IntroTDD.html
This very successful class shows how to improve the reliability,
usability, and maintainability of your codebase, using a design-
by-testing approach.
The cost is 200 CHF per day for SIB members and people from the academic
world, and 300 CHF per day for external members.
See http://www.isb-sib.ch/edu/Registration/SIB_DC12_courses.php for
registration and for more information, and do not hesitate to contact us
if you have any question.
Hope to see you there !
