Dear all,
The next seminar in our series of statistics talks for people interested in quantitative methods in biology and medicine will take place on Thursday 15 October 2015 at 11h00, in the Salle Delachaux (Biopôle 2, first floor, Route de la Corniche 10, Lausanne, M2: Vennes).
The speaker will be Dr. Cristian Carmeli (IUMSP, University Hospital Lausanne) who will speak about "Assessing cerebral deterioration in early Alzheimer's disease with multimodal neuroimaging data".
Abstract : Alzheimer's disease (AD) is a neurodegenerative disease affecting the elderly and unfortunately has no cure to date. One of the specific difficulties with AD is its multifactorial etiology, so multiple biomarkers are needed to better identify individuals at risk and eventually tailor treatments. Neuroimaging is a mature technology offering the possibility to measure different brain tissue properties and potentially providing effective AD biomarkers. In this talk, I will present two case-control studies showing the diagnostic potential of two neuroimaging data modalities. In the first study, highdensity electroencephalograms were analyzed with a multivariate statistical method estimating the amount of correlated brain activity within brain regions. The results showed region-specific aberrant changes of correlation in individuals affected by AD. In the second study, high-resolution magnetization transfer imaging data analyzed with a random field theory model revealed a specific brain region deteriorated in a prodromal (pre-clinical) stage of AD.
Hope to see you there!
