Dear all,
The next seminar in our series of statistics talks for people interested in quantitative methods in biology and medicine will take place on Thursday 20 November 2014 at 11h00 in the Salle Delachaux (Biopôle 2, premier étage, Route de la Corniche 10, Lausanne, M2: Vennes).
The speaker will be Prof. Nicolas Salamin (Department of Ecology and Evolution, UNIL) who will speak about Statistical approaches to test models of evolution of biodiversity.
Abstract: The development of models to understand of the evolution of biodiversity through time have been increasing in the recent years. It is now possible to test a wide range of hypotheses on the biological processes affecting the diversification of species and their phenotypes. These new developments have, however, been associated with increasing complexity in the evolutionary models used, which makes model comparison difficult. Here, I will discuss the different models that are used and highlight the standard statistical approaches that have been proposed. I will also discuss some novel ideas that we are developing to help model comparisons within a Bayesian framework.
Hope to see you there!
Valentin
